Painting Background Sheets
Pre Painting
Every group will get
one sheet
for their background scene. If groups want more than one sheet they need to bring one from home.
Thrift shops are a great place to buy a used sheet. There is no need to buy a new sheet for this project, old sheets work just fine.
Any size sheet will work but Ful
l or Queen is ideal
If sheet is large (King or Queen size) cut extra off to use as a scene banner for the front of your tent
Painting
Use water based paint (no oil based paints)
Use plastic containers for each color (plastic containers such as cottage cheese, yogurt, butter, etc)
Mix 1 part paint to 3 parts water. Paint work best if it is a bit runny and can be applied with a sponge or brush. Thick paint does not work well
Paint will bleed through - be sure to put something under sheet such as cardboard, plastic tarp, etc.
Putting backgrounds sheet on grass to paint also works well
Wear old clothes
For painting large areas on your background sheet like blue sky, brown mountains, green grass, use a large sponge to apply color
Paint to the edges of your background sheet (no white borders)
Post Painting
Clean up after yourself.
Let sheet dry before folding up.
Do not bring the finished background sheet until the day of the Walk.
